What personal data we collect and why we collect it 


When you leave a comment on our website some data is collected. To post a comment you fill out a form. To complete the forms you are asked to connect to a WordPress account, or to provide an email address. We collect this data along with your IP address and browser user agent string. We collect this data to help us detect spam. 

When you supply an email address an anonymized string is created. This is called a hash. The hash and email address might be provided to the Gravatar. This service allows you to use the same avatar on multiple website with ease. If you use Gravatar this lets your profile picture to be visible with your comment. Visitors to the website can download, and extract, location data from images found on the website. If you upload an image to the website, remove any embedded location data (EXIF GPS).

When you leave a comment on our website you can opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in a cookie. If you accept a cookie your details are saved. The next time you make a comment you do not fill your name or email address again. These cookies last for one year. 

When you visit our login page, you gain a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This temporary cookie has no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser. 

When you log in, several cookies save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, unless you click “Remember Me” then the cookie lasts two weeks. When you log out the login cookies are deleted. Screen options cookies last for a year.  

Embedded content from other websites 

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

When you leave a comment, we keep the comment and the metadata indefinitely. This allows us to find and approve follow-up comments easily. This makes our moderators jobs easier and allows conversation to flow better on the website. 

If you that register on our website, we store personal information you provide in for your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete any of your personal information at any time. The only exception is that you cannot change your username). Website administrators can also see and edit personal information. 

What rights you have over your data 

You can request to an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. This exported files includes any data you have provided to us. You can ask that we erase any personal data we hold about you. We cannot erase  data we need to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. 

Where we send your data 

Your comments could be checked through an automated spam detection service. If we use such a service the name of the company and their privacy policy added to this policy.
