What does Accessibility Mean?
Accessibility means to strive to make spaces usable by most people. For this website, accessibility means making text easy to read, having alt-text and descriptions for images, and making sure the site works with accessibility programs.
What is an Accessible Template
WordPress’ has accessibility-ready templates. These templates need to meet the rules set by WordPress. It is hard to keep templates up to date.
When we choose a template, we strive for it to follow WCAG 2.1 AA. WCAG is an accessibility standard for websites. To make sure that the template meets WCAG 2.1 AA, we will test the website for compliance. When a template does not meet WCAG 2.1 AA, we will replace it or use a plugin to supplement the accessible needs.
Headers
We use headers and dividers on our pages to make it easier to scan and find the section you want. When possible, we include a context list at the top of the page to go to a section directly. Headers are WCAG 2.1 AA to meet the needs of screen-readers.
Images and graphics
We include alt-text with an image to meet the needs of screen-readers. When in-depth description is needed, like for graphs, alt-text has a list of categories. There is always a text describing what is in an intricate image.
Videos
All embedded videos use accessibility features that fit them. All videos include captions and have a transcript.
Text size
Text size is 12 (default font is Arial). To change the font size, use the zoom functions in your web browser or use the WordPress functions.
Language
We strive to use clear language on this website. However, this site is for an academic research project. As such, there might be some words that we cannot swap out. When we must use jargon, we will define jargon after it is used or in a Jargon Section at the bottom of the post.
If there is a post that is hard to read, please contact us, and we will work on making it easier to read.
